The first thing to know about Yorgos Lanthimos' (Dogtooth, The Favourite, The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) latest film is that it takes a very nifty metaphor for self-actualization, and turns it into a film that wants, more than anything, to drive that point home in as many ways as it possibly can – subtlety be damned.
