George A. Romero is the master of the undead. While Romero didn’t create the idea of the zombie, he certainly perfected the concept and created the zombie genre as we know it today. Biting, snapping, ripping, and shredding, zombies are driven by a single unerring desire: consume all flesh. Zombies, in all their various forms and iterations, have cemented themselves in pop culture. Movies, television, video games, and more have all paid bloody tribute to the shambling monstrosities and for good reason. Zombies, when done well, are truly terrifying. When George A. Romero made Night of the Living Dead in 1968 he could never have imagined that a low-budget independent film would become the template for the rest of his life, the foundation for one of the world’s most successful horror franchises of all time.
