Ryan Reynolds has shared the first trailer for IF, John Krasinski's new fantasy movie about what happens to imaginary friends when kids grow up and stop thinking about them.

"Get ready for a heart-warming, all-family film from the director of A Quiet Place, the star of Deadpool, and the studio that brought you Annihilation," Reynolds wrote on X/Twitter alongside the trailer, which invites viewers to enter a world they "have to believe to see" as it's one inhabited by imaginary friends, known as IFs.

Written and directed by Krasinski, the fantasy tale follows a young girl who discovers she can see imaginary friends left behind by kids who have grown up and forgotten them. She teams up with Reynolds' character to rescue the world's pretend playmates by getting their now grown-up originators to remember them.

Alongside Krasinski and Reynolds, the movie stars Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Maya Rudolph, Jon Stewart, Bobby Moynihan, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, Awkwafina, and Steve Carell (the voice of the purple monster).

Krasinski produces the family-friendly feature through his production company, Sunday Night, with Allyson Seeger and Andrew Form, known for A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II, among others. Reynolds is also producing under his Maximum Effort banner, which he launched with George Dewey in 2018.

IF opens in theaters on May 17, 2024, and as we already know, it's one you'll have to believe to see.
