Minecraft Dropping PlayStation VR Support Next Year

Minecraft will no longer support virtual reality headset PlayStation VR after March 2025, Mojang has announced.

A blog post detailed incoming changes to the console version of Minecraft and revealed those who enjoy playing with PSVR would no longer be able to do so as of next year. Any version of Minecraft on PlayStation updated with the presumed March 2025 update will no longer support PSVR at all.

Mojang didn't give a specific reason for the cut support though even Sony itself has moved on from the PSVR as its subsequent headset, the PlayStation VR2, was released in February 2023.

"Our ability to support PlayStation VR has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025," it said.

"After you receive the final update, you will still receive updates on your PlayStation and be able to play without PlayStation VR. From this point on you can keep building in your worlds, and your Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will continue to be available. You will no longer be able to use your PlayStation VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported in the latest updates."

Many Minecraft fans have been put off by the amount of reality hitting their game lately, as the first trailer for the Jack Black starring A Minecraft Movie was widely mocked. Many called out its use of real people, like Black and Jason Momoa, in a CGI world, with seemingly the entire film shot against a green screen.

Reaction was so strong that one fan even remade the trailer in a fully animated style, which went down a treat with fans.
