CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan is the proud new owner of a genuine one of a kind PS5 that's in the style of the original PlayStation.
Revealed by PlayStation Employee Network vertical lead Yuichi Haga on X/Twitter, who attended Ryan's thank you party ahead of his retirement in spring 2024, the special PS5 is a great tribute to its great, great grandfather.
PlayStation pulled out all the stops too. Not only does the console come in the classic PlayStation two-tone grey colours, the DualSense controller is made to match and features the original red, yellow, blue, and green PlayStation button as well as coloured buttons.
Sad I won’t be around for #TheGameAwards but I couldn’t pass up the chance to go to Jim Ryan’s thank you party and be around some legends and this one of a kind “Jim Ryan” PS5 with PS1 style. pic.twitter.com/WP7qwtxDI0

Not stopping there, a special USB-C cable is made in the style of the cable used with the classic DualShock controller, even having a thick grey input on the end where it plugs into the console. Sony even created a unique PlayStation 5 box for Ryan's console, that throws away the modern design to be replaced by an old school design.
The console is genuinely unique and cannot be purchased anywhere to the dismay of PlayStation fans, who are taking to social media to beg Sony to release one properly. It bears resemblance to the limited edition 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 consoles that Sony released in 2014 for, well, PlayStation's 20th anniversary.
These machines essentially did the same thing, giving up the slick black design to return the PS4 to 1994. These consoles were sold as normal (though in very limited quantities), and while Sony hasn't said anything about a PS5 take on this officially, the 30th anniversary is right around the corner in 2024.
