Alongside sharing an apology for any hurt she has caused, Drew Barrymore has announced that she will not be resuming her talk show - The Drew Barrymore Show - until the WGA strike has ended.

Barrymore took to Instagram to share the news, saying she has "no words" to fully express how sorry she is to anyone she hurt during the process.

"I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over," Barrymore wrote. "I have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who works on the show and has made it what it is today. We really tried to find our way forward. And I truly hope for a resolution for the entire industry very soon."

Barrymore announced last week that she would be resuming her show despite the WGA strike that has been ongoing since May. She said, "this is bigger than just me. I own this choice. We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind."

“We launched in a global pandemic,” Barrymore added. “Our show was built for sensitive times and has only functioned through what the real world is going through in real time. I want to be there to provide what writers do so well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense of the human experience.

"I hope for a resolve for everyone as soon as possible. We have navigated difficult times since we first came on air. And so I take a step forward to start season 4 once again with an astute humility.”

Barrymore also posted a video on Instagram further detailing her choice to bring back the show, but it has since been deleted after it also wasn't as well received as she hoped.

That decision quickly came under fire, including by the Writers Guild of America, who said the show would actually be breaking the strike by resuming.

"The Drew Barrymore Show is a WGA-covered struck television show,” explained WGA spokesperson Jason Gordon. “It has stayed off the air since the strike began on May 2, but has now (unfortunately) decided to return without its writers.”

Protestors began picketing outside of her show, and two audience members were even kicked out for wearing "writers guild on strike" pins they were given. The audience members were then offered new tickets to a future episode after reps for show said they regretted the decision.
