One Piece may revolve around the actions of its protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, but none of the events of the series would be possible were it not for the influence of a different figure — Gol D. Roger. By the time that the Straw Hat Pirates set sail in the Grand Line, Roger is more myth than man, having served as the catalyst for the Golden Age of Pirates decades before the series. Thanks to his legendary status and long list of accomplishments, the King of the Pirates is one of the most interesting characters in the entire series.
