Dystopian thriller Alice in Borderland will be back for a third season.

Netflix announced its return during the APOS conference in Indonesia and confirmed that Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya will reprise the roles of Arisu and Usagi.

“Fans can look forward to witnessing the evolution of their characters in the ever-dangerous landscape of Borderland,” said Netflix.

Alice in Borderland debuted on Netflix back in 2020 and ranked among the top 10 most-watched shows in almost 40 territories across Europe and Asia. Season 2 followed on from this success in 2022, becoming Netflix Japan’s most-watched title ever, even outperforming its anime titles. Alice in Borderland has racked up over 200 million viewing hours to date.

Alice in Borderland is based on a manga that was serialized in the weekly comic books, Weekly Shonen Sunday S and Weekly Shonen Sunday, between 2010 and 2016. The popular thriller tells the story of Arisu, a young gamer who is transported into a parallel universe along with two of his friends. There, they find themselves trapped in an abandoned Tokyo, forced to compete in dangerous games as they fight for their survival. The games are split into four categories, represented by the suits of a deck of cards. Winning a game will extend that player’s visa – if it expires, the player is killed by lasers shot from the sky.

As well as the return of its stars, Netflix also confirmed that Shinsuke Sato will return to direct Season 3, “ensuring that the series maintains its trademark intensity and cinematic excellence." Sato previously directed Gantz, Inuyashiki, and Death Note: Light Up the New World with TV credits including Kingdom and the Death Note mini-series.
