For all you Yellowstone heads, we tip our cowboy hats to your loss. The smash hit Paramount Network series aired the first half of its final season in late 2022 and, well, we have no idea when that second half will arrive. But fear not, western lovers — because Yellowstone star Kevin Costner is coming back with a whole new saddle on for a two-part film called Horizon: An American Saga.
The sneak peek teaser for the film event mainly gives us information on the project’s release dates, cast, and creative team — but you know they made a little time to give us some bad-ass Costner on a horse, shooting his shotgun into the distance of a prairie. You know, just to get us hyped up.
Chapter 1 of the new epic, which is directed by and stars Costner himself, will be released exclusively in theaters on June 28, 2024, with Chapter 2 following on Aug. 16, 2024. You can watch the trailer below.
Back in February, IGN covered reports that Costner's time on Yellowstone was coming to an end due to scheduling conflicts — and it looks like this project may have been the one that took him away from the Dutton ranch and instead placed him in the great unknown of the American west.
The two-part movie has a star-studded cast, with the likes of Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bower rounding out the players alongside Costner. New Line Cinema, which is releasing the film, also debuted the poster image via their X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

On top of his directorial efforts, Costner has also co-written Horizon: An American Saga with novelist Jon Baird. This wouldn’t be the actor’s first time crossing over to the director’s chair; Costner has previous directorial credits for 1990’s Dances With Wolves, 1997’s The Postman, and 2003’s Open Range under his belt. The longtime performer will also produce the film with Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard.
Sounds like this exploration of the expansion of the American west could be just what it says it is: a good old-fashioned epic saga.
