Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two's release date has been delayed to 2025, making it the latest movie to be pushed back amid the ongoing actor's strike. Originally scheduled to be released in June 2024, it is now slated to be released on May 23, 2025.

The eighth film in the Mission: Impossible Franchise, Dead Reckoning Part Two will pick up where the most recent film left off earlier this year. Like the rest of the franchise, it is expected to be built around a series of death-defying stunts, most of them performed by star Tom Cruise.

Dead Reckoning was among the films to underperform in 2023, ultimately losing Paramount around $40 million due to production costs. Nevertheless, it won praise from critics and moviegoers alike, making it one of 2023's highest-rated movies.

We wrote in our review, "If every tentpole franchise entry were this fun and finely tuned, the theatrical-versus-streaming debate would be immediately put to rest. Ethan Hunt may fight to save the world, but Dead Reckoning Part One plays like Tom Cruise’s fight to save the summer blockbuster through entertainment on an enormous scale."

Whatever lies in store for the future of Mission: Impossible, McQuarrie’s third outing as director proves that he still has an ingenious bag of tricks to pull from, having departed from the gloom and doom of Fallout to create an explosive yet self-reflexive action saga that leaves you wanting more."

Dead Reckoning Part Two joins the numerous films that have been delayed amid the ongoing actor's strike, including Dune: Part 2, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and basically Disney's entire movie slate. Deadpool 3 is also among the movies expected to face delays as the cast and crew wait to restart production.

SAG-AFTRA is expected to resume negotiations with Hollywood studios this week, but the two seem no closer to a resolution despite the writer's strike ending late last month.
