We're still a month away from the premiere of The Boys Season 4, but Prime Video gave fans some good news in the meantime today: the series has already been renewed for a fifth season.

The streaming platform revealed the news at its inaugural Upfronts presentation today, doubling down on its commitment to one of its biggest originals. In addition to the main series, The Boys has inspired two spinoffs: animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical, as well as Gen V, which has been renewed for Season 2.

The renewal news comes almost exactly a month before The Boys Season 4 premieres on June 13, when it will drop three episodes before moving to weekly releases through July 18.

In a statement today, showrunner Eric Kripke reflected on some of the wild, gory antics that The Boys is known for, in addition to some of its social and political commentary and satire.

“The Boys could be the best job I'll ever have. What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order,” said Kripke said. "The cast and crew are deeply grateful to Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to tell this story for another season. My only problem is that since this year promises to be free of any conflict or misinformation, we're not sure what to write about."

In another statement, Amazon MGM Studios Head of Television Vernon Sanders wrote that the company's "proud of this series that has grown into a global franchise," while Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope added that "we can’t wait to see where Eric Kripke and The Boys go next.”

The Boys first debuted on Prime Video in 2019 and quickly became one of the streaming platform's most-watched shows. According to Amazon's own numbers, the series has only continued to rise in viewership with each subsequent season.

"What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order.

The show is based on the comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, and follows a group of vigilantes as they attempt (sometimes successfully, often not) to keep the world's superpowered individuals - or Supes - in check. Season 4 will find Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) inching closer to the Oval Office, but also under the thumb of Homelander (Anthony Starr). The Boys, meanwhile, are without their former leader, as they're all tired of Billy Butcher's (Karl Urban) lies.

"With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late," the synopsis reads.

IGN gave Season 3 of The Boys a 9/10, writing that it "achieves a balance between impactful storytelling and extreme violence that cements itself as one of the best shows on streaming, no matter year or genre."
