Out of all the shows in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Voyager is easily the most bizarre. It arrived with the saga at a crossroads and took big risks with its storytelling, earning a reputation for outlandish content. That could bite it more than once, with the likes of Season 2, Episode 15 "Threshold" delivering truly absurd plot twists. But it also gave the series its distinctiveness in a period when the franchise was looking very crowded, and its premise sent the title ship to the far side of the galaxy millions of light years from the nearest help to let it expand the Star Trek universe in surprising ways. Today, it retains its singular charm precisely because of its wilder side, to the point where Star Trek: Lower Decks dedicated the entirety of Season 4, Episode 1, "Twovix" to detailing all the weird. That arose at least partially out of expediency.
