Zoe Saldaña has already said goodbyes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that doesn't mean she thinks the Guardians of the Galaxy are done for good.
Speaking with the Discourse podcast, Saldaña said she would be in the "first row" to celebrate the return of the Guardians of the Galaxy, though she hints that she thinks it would be a good idea for Marvel to recast her character, Gamora.
"I mean, so far, I think that she is [gone for good] for me, but I don’t think Gamora has gone for good," Saldaña explained. "I would think it would be a huge loss for Marvel if they didn’t find a way to bring back the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s just such a fan-favorite group of misfits, you know? And then at the helm, they had a voice like James Gunn’s writing — which is just so marvelous for and very specific for this genre. And it’s so great for this genre as well."
Other Guardians of the Galaxy veterans have also weighed in on their time with the series. Ahead of last year's release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Dave Bautista said he was "relieved" to be done with Drax. Director James Gunn, who is now co-developing the DC Universe, has spoken at length about his emotions over bringing Guardians of the Galaxy to a close. In our review we said that Guardian's of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sends the group out as on an "emotional and action-packed high note."
For now, it's unclear what Marvel's plans are for the Guardians of the Galaxy, if any. With a handful of exceptions — Don Cheadle as Colonel James Rhodes comes to mind — Disney has shown little appetite for recasting its most famous characters, preferring instead to pass the torch as it did with Captain America.
