Evil does a lot more than lurk in Argentinean writer-director Demián Rugna's intense and terrifying horror film When Evil Lurks. Demonic possession is a constant background threat in When Evil Lurks, set in what appears to be a world where such occurrences are commonly accepted as an everyday risk. Rugna drops the audience in the middle of that world without explanation, and his matter-of-fact approach to the subject amplifies the horror. Gruesome acts of violence often arise without warning for both the characters and the audience. Rugna keeps viewers on edge from the moment When Evil Lurks begins until the final shot.
