It can be hard to overstate the impact Ridley Scott's Alien has had on the science fiction genre. Now, 45 years since it first terrified audiences in 1979, the film remains just as relevant as ever. Alien wasn't the first film to adopt the used future aesthetic, but it was the first major Hollywood film to embrace it as a core part of its plot. Here was a film set over a hundred years in the future; mankind has conquered the stars, and yet these people--truckers--were acting the exact same as any group sharing a dinner--until something goes horribly wrong, of course.
