The newest Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes trailer is here and it shows an epic look at a new world divided where Ceasar's son Cornelius may be the key to a better future for both apes and humans.

The footage, which appeared during a Super Bowl LVIII commercial break today, focuses on the history of the once-great human race and how much things have changed now that this is... well... a planet of the apes. However, not all apes are on the same page in this new kingdom.

"Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows," the official description reads. "As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike."

This isn’t our first look at Ball’s continuation of the Planet of the Apes franchise. In November, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ debut trailer revealed a world that’s been overrun by monkies for hundreds of years. Although its story is centered on new conflicts and characters, this post-apocalyptic follow-up still takes place within the same universe as the franchise’s previous trilogy, which starred Andy Serkis as Caesar.

The franchise began its reboot period with Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011, with a grittier sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, arriving in 2014. War for the Planet of the Apes capped off the Caesar trilogy in 2017, and with this new film said to take place 300 years after the story left off, it's unclear how the events may tie in with one another.

Following a recent schedule change, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes swings into theaters on May 10, 2024.
