Comic book movies have been the backbone of cinema ever since the Batman movie serials of the 1940s. As fate would have it, Batman has continued to define the genre with its many other entries, including Tim Burton's Batman, which introduced a much darker iteration. The most impactful of all came in the 2000s when director Christopher Nolan introduced Batman Begins in 2005, grounding the character more than ever before. While the original was believed by fans all the same, it wasn't until 2008's The Dark Knight that the true vision of the franchise began to take shape.
