Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has revealed that a Professor X cameo from Patrick Stewart was never on the table despite being heavily rumored.
The superhero blockbuster is chock full of cameos, including several from the Fox era of X-Men and Marvel movies, but Stewart's Charles Xavier isn't among them. Levy revealed on the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast that this is one cameo they never considered for the Deadpool & Wolverine team-up movie.
"Never even discussed," Levy said of Stewart's rumored return. "[He was] studied. Studied by Emma Corrin big time because the Cassandra sibling-hood to Professor X is really interesting to us. But no, never discussed. Never, never considered."
A shot in the first Deadpool & Wolverine trailer led some people to speculate about a potential cameo from Professor X until they tied the mysterious figure to Emma Corrin's Cassandra Nova, the evil twin sister of the X-Men leader. However, a few fans thought there was still a chance that Xavier could make an appearance.
The speculation was spurred on even further by comments Stewart made when he appeared as a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast himself in January, as he confirmed conversations were happening when host Josh Horowitz hedged his bets that we might get to see Stewart alongside Hugh Jackman again in the movie.
While that reunion didn't happen, Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman's Clawed Crusader had no shortage of friends in the movie. Levy recently unpacked some of the wildest cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, including Wesley Snipes' Blade, Channing Tatum's Gambit, and Henry Cavill's Cavillerine.
