As part of its Dell Black Friday Sale event, Dell is offering some rare discounts on their sleek Alienware x14 and x16 gaming laptop equipped with current-gen RTX 40 seriess GPUs. They range from the modest yet very capable RTX 4060 GPU all the way to the super powerful RTX 4090 GPU. The Alienware x-series gaming laptops are newer, thinner, and lighter redesigns of the traditional M-series laptops. These are the thinnest Alienware laptops ever and they compete in build quality, dimensions, and performance to other high-end ultra-thin laptops like the Razer Blade.
Alienware x14 and x16 Gaming Laptops Are on Sale
There are four models to choose from. The smallest is the x14 laptop with a 14" QHD+ display, i7 processor, and an RTX 4060 GPU. The other options climb steadily in power: a 16" i7/RTX 4070 config, a 16" i9/RTX 4080 config, and finally a super powerful 16" i9/RTX 4090 config.
One important thing to note is that unlike the first gen X-series gaming laptops, the x14 and x16 models have GPUs that boast the same TGP rating as their M-series counterparts. For example, the x15 has the same RTX 3070 TI GPU with 140W TGP that you'd find in an m15. Theoretically, that means you shouldn't see any performance difference between an equivalently equipped x15 and m15 in games. That's super impressive considering the x15's 0.62" thickness. The X-series laptops are justifiably more expensive than their M-series counterparts, but this deal negates that one disadvantage.
Although the GPU is more or less identical, there is a slight compromise in CPU performance. The x-series laptops utilizes the less power-hungry Intel Core i7 H- and HK-series CPUs whereas the full-sized m-series uses the more powerful Intel i7 HX-series CPUs. For most people, the performance difference probably won't be noticeable, especially since it doesn't matter as much for games (the GPU is more important). I personally think it's worth it to get a sleeker, more sophisticated, and more portable machine. You will have to splurge, however, since they do cost a bit more than the Alienware m16 laptops, which are also currently are on sale.
