James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU reboot officially has its Supergirl. Gunn confirmed on Threads that House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock will be donning the cape following reports from The Wrap, writing, "Welcome to the DCU, Milly Alcock!"

IGN has reached out to Alcock's representatives along with DC Studios.

Alcock, who plays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, is said to have beat out Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly for the role, according to a report by Deadline. It's unclear whether she will appear in Superman: Legacy, though she is reportedly expected to appear in a DCU film before taking on the role of the title character in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Alcock joins a cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. Based on the 2022 comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will feature a very different Supergirl than audiences are used to, focusing on a woman who "has gone through it all." The film will be written Ana Nogueira

Superman: Legacy, which will kick off the ambitious DCU reboot, is expected to begin filming in March, with a release date set for July 11, 2025.
