While Argylle may have won the domestic weekend box office, it also had a very slow start by earning only $18.0 million in North America.
As reported by Comscore, Argylle brought in another $17.3 million overseas to help its worldwide total reach $35.3 million. This is a disappointing debut for the film that reportedly had a roughly $200 million production budget, per Variety.
The Matthew Vaughn-directed Argylle had a lot going for it, as the spy thriller features a star-studded cast that is led by Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Samuel L. Jackson, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Sofia Boutella, Ariana DeBose, and Dua Lipa.
In our Argylle review, we said, "Argylle, an all-star wannabe-mindbender of a spy caper, has a sweetness missing from Matthew Vaughn’s last few semi-fantastical action movies, but it’s also a sluggishly paced idea-dump that fails to cohere."
Argylle also didn't have too much competition this weekend, as the winner of second place - the theatrical release of the first three episodes of the American Christian historial drama The Chosen's fourth season - only brought in $6.0 million.
The Beekeeper took third place with $5.2 million, Wonka placed fourth in its eighth weekend with $4.7 million, and Migration rounded out the top five with $4.1 million.
