Henry Cavill has revealed that he will soon begin training for his role in the Highlander reboot, though he warns it is the start of "a very long" process.
The Witcher star is teaming up with John Wick director Chad Stahelski to bring a new take on the 1986 cult classic to the screen. Cavill confirmed his involvement with the reboot, telling Collider he is "very excited to get into it" but that he doesn't underestimate the task ahead as he is currently gearing up to begin his training.
"The training is about to begin in earnest," Cavill revealed. "It'll be a very long training process, and I'm very excited to get into it. There's only so much I can tell you at the moment. I want to keep everything under wraps for as long as possible."
The long-gestating Highlander reboot is targeting a 2026 release, with filming on the project set to commence soon. Stahelski hopes the film will be the first installment of a new franchise centered around Scottish warrior Connor MacLeod, who discovers he is immortal when he survives what should have been a fatal stabbing in battle.
While discussing his upcoming plans, hot on the heels of his role in Matthew Vaughn's spy thriller Argylle, Cavill dropped a breadcrumb of information about the status of his Warhammer project for Prime Video, telling the outlet that it is "progressing very well" and "big things are happening, and we are very excited."
Cavill's Warhammer 40,000 Cinematic Universe started "properly rolling" last year, but fans shouldn't hold their breath for a first look. There are plans for a whole "universe of Warhammer programming," but it's unclear whether the project will kick off with a movie or TV show, and it could take a few years for either to materialise.
