DC has pulled back the curtain on the next Superman movie (previously known as Superman: Legacy) to reveal a first look at David Corenswet in his heroic new suit, and it didn’t take fans long to flock and share their thoughts.
This early look at the Man of Steel’s outfit comes directly from DC Studios co-CEO and Superman director James Gunn. It’s an image that reveals a battle-ready hero, who, judging by the giant purple sky laser in the background, has some work to do.
The picture answers some questions while presenting new ones. Nevertheless, fans are happy to finally get a sneak peek at Superman ahead of the film’s release next year, and they’re even happier to see Clark Kent wearing that iconic red and blue.
“David Corenswet’s Superman curl is literal perfection,” one X user said.
“Looks good to me,” a user on Reddit added. “Realistic but still with a comics kind of pop. Like a live action Incredibles kind of vibe. Which is a good tone to hit imho.”

Your average moviegoer might not thing Corenswet’s Superman suit differs much from the out fit Henry Cavill wore for the last decade or so. However, fans were quick to point out one key feature that sets the new threads apart from other recent live-action outfits: red trunks. Cavill’s Kryptonian attire went for a slightly more grounded look, ditching the red trunks the hero had previously been known to wear. Gunn’s new take on the character brings the iconic part of the suit back to the big screen.
“Suit didn’t get leaked, David looks great, he’s got trunks and looks comfy,” another X user added, “we might be back here folks.”
“He’s got the trunks, he’s got the hair curl, he’s got the looks,” another person on X added. “David Corenswet IS SUPERMAN.”

Many others are reserving judgement while they wait to actually see Corenswet’s Superman suit in motion. Regardless, fan reception to the outfit is strong to start, but there is one question that remains: what in the world is going on in the background?
We’ve known for a while that Gunn’s Superman movie will feature Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. After today, though, many have started to speculate that the purple sky laser might be teasing a Brainiac appearance.
“I like how it looks like he took a break from getting his ass kicked by Brainiac so he could change into new boots,” another post says.
“Got that underwear!” artist Bosslogic said. “Also I’mma say that is Brainiac in the background… Till it’s not.”
Superman lands into theaters on July 11, 2025. Although we’ve gotten plenty of good looks at its cast, there’s still much about the film we have yet to learn. For example, Gunn shot down rumors of that a Superman clone will play a part in the movie earlier this year.
