Women on television have never had it easy. One of the earliest television sitcoms, I Love Lucy, sparked controversy for being the first show to depict a very visible pregnancy. Similarly, Grey's Anatomy's Izzie Stevens was one of the series' most hated characters just for being pretty and a doctor. Every year, more women are taking the lead in TV shows, but the narrative still hasn't changed. If they exhibit one slight flaw, they're reduced to the same judgment of sadistic male villains.
