The MCU's first foray into true horror, Werewolf by Night, premiered in October 2022 as the franchise's first Halloween special. Introduced as the first of what will become a new branch of the MCU exploring horror and monsters, Werewolf by Night quickly became a fan favorite, bringing audiences away from their franchise fatigue with a new kind of MCU feature. The TV special being in black-and-white was a big risk for the MCU. Big special effects and vibrant colors have become a staple for the superhero franchise, but diverting to show off the monsters from its lesser-known Marvel Comics also brought out a new approach MCU fans adored.
