Doctor Who is kicking off a brand new era with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as new companion Ruby Sunday. The new series of Doctor Who is being overseen by returning showrunner Russell T Davies, who originally relaunched the show when it returned to television after a 16-year hiatus in 2005. When Davies first brought Doctor Who back to screens, he also introduced the idea of airing an annual Christmas special between seasons. While the Christmas specials continued into the era of Davies' successor as showrunner, Steven Moffat, during Chris Chibnall's time running the series, the festive specials moved to New Year's Day. Now, the Doctor Who Christmas special has returned.
