Lindsay Lohan has confirmed that a Freaky Friday sequel is "in the process" of coming together, adding that she is "excited" to work with her original co-star Jamie Lee Curtis again.
The actress shared the news on Andy Cohen's SiriusXM show after the host probed about the Freaky Friday sequel. She candidly revealed "it is happening" and that co-star Jamie Lee Curtis shares her excitement for the follow-up film, though she admitted she didn't want to "say too much" about the production timeline yet.
In a separate interview with People magazine, Lohan affirmed Freaky Friday is getting a sequel, more than 20 years after she and Curtis first swapped bodies in the 2003 remake of the 1976 feature from Disney. She told the outlet the new movie is "in the process" and that she is looking forward to working with Curtis again.
"We talk almost every other day in general, so I think we're going to have a lot of fun with this," Lohan said about reuniting with her Freaky Friday co-star to "see how much further" they can take it.
Curtis, like Lohan, has kept details of the plot in the crypt (she is the crypt-keeper, after all), though she did pitch an idea in 2022. "Let me be the grandma!" Curtis pleaded on The View. "So then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma who's still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon."
Curtis and Lohan portrayed a mother-daughter duo who magically switch bodies in the 2003 adaptation of Mary Rodgers' 1972 Freaky Friday novel. The film was a commercial success, earning $160 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of $26 million, so it was only a matter of time until a sequel came about.
