FX has dished out a third season renewal for its critically acclaimed comedy-drama series The Bear, starring Jeremy Allen White as the award-winning chef Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto.
The Bear, from creator Christopher Storer, will return with new episodes in 2024, airing on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ in all other territories.
"The Bear, which wowed audiences in its first season only to achieve even greater heights in season two, has become a cultural phenomenon," FX Entertainment president Nick Grad said in a statement. "We're so proud to partner with Christopher Storer, Joanna Calo, Josh Senior, and the rest of the creative team, as well as the brilliant cast led by Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. What they and the crew have done is truly remarkable, and we and our partners at Hulu join fans in looking forward to the next chapter in the story of The Bear."
The Bear comes from the mind of Christopher Storer, who also acts as executive producer alongside Joanna Calo, Hiro Murai, Josh Senior and Matty Matheson, with Tyson Bidner serving as producer. It stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson.
The series premiered in June 2022 and became an instant success, receiving 13 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series. It was handed a second season renewal, with a new batch of episodes this year, following Carmy and co. as they worked to transform their grimy sandwich joint into a next-level spot.
The sophomore season of The Bear rekindled the binge vs. weekly release debate while continuing the series' trend of dizzying highs and crushing lows with just the right sprinkle of blunt humour. It arguably featured the most jarringly intense episode of the series to date, but it was also among the most heartfelt.
Season 2 has a 99% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 92% rating from the general audience. IGN called the second course of The Bear a "masterpiece" in its 10/10 review, which praised everything "from the performances to the pacing" for managing to serve up "the perfect bite of anxiety and growth."
