In many superhero stories, the concept of the city rising up to help their hero in the hour of need is quite popular. It's been seen in Sony's 2002 Spider-Man in which citizens of New York came together to help Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker, not just against the Green Goblin, but when he was incapacitated. Ms. Marvel did the same when New Jersey citizens aided Kamala Khan against Damage Control.
