We aren't too far away from getting a glimpse at the previously announced combined Disney+ and Hulu app.
During Wednesday's Q4 earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company would open a beta test for the app, which is set to combine the content of both platforms in a "one-app experience," in December. The company is still eyeing spring 2024 for the official launch, likely in March.
“We remain on track to roll out a more unified one-app experience domestically, making extensive general entertainment content available to bundle subscribers via Disney+," Iger said.
As Iger highlighted on the call, content from Family Guy to The Bear will be available will be on the Hulu on Disney+ option.
The news comes a week after Disney announced that it would be buying Comcast's remaining stake in Hulu, spending roughly $8.5 billion. Since then, it's already starting signaling more collaboration between the two companies, revealing that upcoming MCU series Echo would drop on Hulu on the same day it debuts on Disney+.
Disney hasn't revealed pricing for the Disney+/Hulu "one-app experience" yet. Currently, Disney offers a bundle of Disney+ and Hulu with ads for $9.99 per month, and one without ads for $19.99 per month. The platforms will still be available separately after the launch of the combined app.
Elsewhere in Wednesday's earnings call, Iger acknowledged that they were in a "period of fixing" after a rough 2023, hopeful that they can now focus on "building." It was also announced today that Disney+ has officially crossed the 150 million subscriber mark.
