Edgar Wright's zombie-comedy Shaun of the Dead is returning to theaters "20 bloody years" after its original release.

Focus Features announced the theatrical re-release of Shaun of the Dead alongside a trailer for the 20th anniversary event. The video reminds audiences of the gut-busting, bone-mashing good time they will have if they buy a ticket to "re-live the apocalypse" on the big screen in August in the US and September in the UK.

Shaun of the Dead has been given a remaster for the occasion, with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos giving audiences an elevated cinematic experience by showcasing the subtle details, ultra-vivid colors, and immersive sound of the zombie-riddled feature.

"20 years ago, the worldwide release of Shaun of the Dead changed my life forever," Wright said in a statement acknowledging the event. "Its reception since then has continued to be incredible, largely due to the passionate fans who have championed it with cricket bats aloft. Now, as we celebrate its bloody 20th anniversary with a brand-new Dolby Atmos and Vision remastered version, I'm beyond excited for everyone to experience it once again on the big screen—the way it was always meant to be seen: large, loud, and with quite a lot of red on it."

Shaun of the Dead premiered in theaters in 2004, telling the story of an unambitious salesman Shaun (Simon Pegg) and his best pal Ed (Nick Frost) as they race across town to save their friends and family, including Shaun's ex-girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield), from a horde of flesh-eating zombies looking for their next entree.

The movie received largely positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success upon its release. IGN gave it an 8 out of 10 in its review and praised its "originality, clever set-ups and witty humor," further noting that, "repeated viewings reveal some subtle touches that enrich the humor and clever set-up of the film."
