The Little Mermaid live-action remake had the most viewed Disney+ movie premiere since 2022's Hocus Pocus 2 with 16 million views in its first five days of streaming.

Disney shared the news of the "big splash" The Little Mermaid made when it arrived on Disney+ on September 6 while also highlighting its box office success.

The Little Mermaid swam to theaters on May 26, 2023, and won the Memorial Day weekend with ticket sales of $118.6 million in North America. It ended its theatrical run with $298.17 million domestically and $569.52 million worldwide.

Disney hasn't revealed how many views Hocus Pocus 2 had in its debut, but it did share that it measures a view as total stream time divided by runtime. It's also important to note that Hocus Pocus 2 didn't have a theatrical release and The Little Mermaid did. Disney did, however, recently reveal that Ahsoka's first episode brought in 14 million views.

In our The Little Mermaid review, we said, "Full of heart and led by a star-making performance from Halle Bailey, The Little Mermaid is an acceptable, if not always successful, adaptation of the animated original."
