As a chief example of DC Comics' sense of legacy, all three comic book versions of Blue Beetle have demonstrated immense heroism. The first iteration, Dan Garrett, was introduced in 1939 and remained the Blue Beetle until DC Comics acquired the character in the 1980s. Although Ted Kord took the mantle and became the main Blue Beetle in the Post-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity, the mantle was eventually taken up by Jamie Reyes, who wields the full power of a strange alien device.
