In Mass Effect 2, taking enemies out from a distance is an art form and, with the right sniper rifle, a resurrected Commander Shepard who takes the Infiltrator or Soldier player class can quickly become a master. Other player classes can train in the use of sniper rifles once they've established themselves on the Normandy and begun leveling up, and four other squad members can use most of these weapons, though dealing far less damage than Shepard.
