Professional wrestler Sidney Raymond Eudy a.k.a. Sid Vicious has passed away at 63 following a battle with cancer.
Sid Vicious’ son, Gunnar Eudy, shared the news in a post on Facebook today. He says his father battled cancer for “several years.”
“He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed,” Gunnar Eudy said. “We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon.”
Sid Vicious wrestled under a variety of names, including Sid Justice, Lord Humungous, and Sycho Sid, and took to the ring in 1987. He went on to join the WWE in 1991, wrestling alongside the likes of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, and more.
He remained a prominent face throughout the ‘90s and into the early 2000s until suffering a career-ending injury, which saw him landing on and breaking a leg mid-fight, resulting in one of the more infamous moments in wrestling history. He rejoined the wring following his recovery but went on to retire in 2017.
"Known as 'The Master and Ruler of the World,' Sid’s reputation as one of the toughest and most thrilling Superstars cemented his legacy in WWE," the WWE said in a statement, "and his influence can still be seen in wrestling rings around the world."
The former WWE champion’s passing has sent a shock to the wrestling world, so members of the wrestling community have taken to social media to reminisce about some of their favorite memories from his career. Former wrestler Booker T. Huffman was one of many to share a message on X/Twitter.
“Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW,” Huffman said. “His impact on this business was undeniable, and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.”
