In Meg 2: The Trench, there are more megalodons, more monsters and basically, a lot more death emerging from the mysterious dark zone. It's all due to Driscoli using the Oceanic Institute to mine metals from inside the Trench. This results in her team causing an explosion and the thermal barrier being broken.
