The TV adaptation of The Boys, a comic book series by Garth Ennis, has been a hit since its debut in 2019. With its success came an animated series, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and now, in late September, came yet another spinoff of the franchise: Gen V. Like The Boys, Gen V is a live-action series that follows a new heroine, Marie Moreau, and her adventures at a superhero university with a new group of newly-not-teen supes. And like everything having to do with supes in the world of The Boys, the university is owned by Vought, and thus, nefarious schemes must be uncovered. But while the gory and outright explicit content has been used masterfully throughout The Boys to paint the visceral image of this superhero-filled world, the first three episodes of Gen V fail to find footing outside its predecessor.
