Square Enix's Final Fantasy franchise is known as one of the pillars of the JRPG subgenre, and while that naturally comes with monumental expectations, Final Fantasy XVI lived up to its hype in a variety of ways. The PlayStation 5 exclusive was released to high critical praise and (albeit controversially) leaned into real-time combat more than any other mainline installment.
