The first trailer for Tron: Ares was shown during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 2024, offering fans their big look at the anticipated sequel to Tron and Tron: Legacy.

Jeff Bridges took the stage at D23 2024 to share new info about the film, saying it's a "beautiful time" to bring the venerable franchise back.

"We made the original in 1982, it’s hard to believe. It’s amazing to… we never thought it would have this legacy that’s continued on," Bridges said. "And here we are. What a beautiful time to bring it back, with technology and AI being omnipresent in our lives. The perfect time to revisit this amazing world. To have this amazing world visit us. That’s what happens in our movie."

Tron: Ares was previously revealed in a first-look image featuring a menacing red suit. The official plot summary reads:

Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings

During the Disney Entertainment Showcase, Bridges confirmed that filming was finished on the new movie as co-stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Jared Leto talked about their characters. Leto joked that he never signed an NDA and said he would play "Ares Master Controller," a villain who wants to make the real world his own, permanently.

Following the introduction, the first trailer for Tron: Ares was shown. It features a man gazing at the stars and wondering if he's alone, only to realize that intelligent life has existed all along within AI and tech.

"There is something at work inside my soul I do not understand. I came here to find something," Ares says during the trailer. "Something important. Permanence."

We see Area walking through the real world following by a big Tron ship in the sky; Tron bike paths in the real world; battles with staffs, discs being thrown, and more. It finishes with Bridges appearing in a white robe with the line, "Greetings, Program" and confirmation that Nine Inch Nails will be handling the soundtrack.

While no new release info was shown, we do known the long-awaited sequel is slated to be released sometime in 2025. Joachim Rønning is attached to direct. For more, check out everything announced at the Disney Entertainment Showcase during D23 2024.
