The X-Men were Marvel's hottest property for decades, but the publisher decided to downgrade them in the mid-'00s. For a good portion of the 21st century, X-Men fans weren't eating very well compared to the rest of the Marvel Universe, but that changed in 2019. Jonathan Hickman joined the X-Men office, helped recruit a new team of writers, and launched Dawn Of X.
