Is the PlayStation Portal Worth it for College?
The PlayStation Portal’s backpack-friendly size and streaming capabilities make it an ideal candidate to take on the go or use at collegue. But, there are some important caveats to consider before shelving your Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck in the Portal’s favor.
The PlayStation Portal uses Remote Play via Wi-Fi to stream your PS5 games, so you’ll need a strong and consistent connection to access your library. If you find yourself in a dorm with a shoddy connection, i.e. less than the required 5Mbps, you won’t be able to connect.
One more thing to consider: your PS5 will need to be kept in Rest Mode and not switched off completely; otherwise, the Portal won’t be able to stream your library. So keep that in mind before you head off without your home console... you might need someone to turn it back on if there's a power cut.
