Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, one of the upcoming films in James Gunn and Peter Safran's revamped DCU, got a surprise release date drop on Tuesday evening.
Per a press release from Warner Bros., Supergirl will fly into theaters on June 26, 2026. Supergirl is set to be directed by Cruella and I, Tonya filmmaker Craig Gillespie, with House of the Dragon breakout Milly Alcock playing the titular superhero. Ana Nogueira is writing the script.
That should give us something of an idea of the DCU's release schedule. The only other movie in Gunn and Safran's DCU to get a release date yet (excluding Elseworlds titles like Joker: Folie à Deux and The Batman: Part II) is Superman, which will hit theaters a year before Supergirl on July 11, 2025. While we only have two dates so far, we could see a release schedule that sees one DCU movie per summer.
Still, we'll have to wait and see how the rest of the film slate shakes out. Elsewhere in the DCU's Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters are The Brave and The Bold, The Authority, and Swamp Thing, and we're still awaiting more info on those.
We're also waiting to learn more about Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but Gunn has revealed just a few details. For one, it takes its name directly from the recent Tom King and Bilquis Evely limited series of the same name, which finds a version of Kara Zor-El struggling to find purpose and meaning in her life. "But," DC Comics' official synopsis reads, "all that changes when an alien girl seeks her out to help her take revenge on the bad guys who destroyed her world."
Gunn, meanwhile, has teased that the Supergirl we'll see in Woman of Tomorrow is "much more hardcore and not the Supergirl we're used to."
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow wasn't the only release date that Warner Bros. revealed on Tuesday. Just shortly before the Supergirl announcement, the studio revealed an October 24, 2025 release date for Mortal Kombat 2.
Editor's note: A previous version of this story noted that Warner Bros. simply called the movie "Supergirl" in the release date announcement. However, the studio said that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is still the complete title after IGN asked for clarification.
