One Piece fans waited more than a year to see Gear 5 Luffy in animated form, and it was certainly worth the wait. In Episode 1072, Luffy continues to overwhelm Kaido with his newfound power, but Gear 5 deactivates in the middle of their fight, and it becomes clear that Luffy pays some kind of price when he uses it for a prolonged period of time. Some of Luffy's previous transformations came with their own side effects as well, but none have been as draining as Gear 5 seems to be.
