It's always been something of an open secret that the original 1984 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic borrowed much of its origin story from Marvel. The canister of chemicals that leaks into the sewers onto the titular heroes is similar to the one that hit a young Matt Murdock. The turtles' mentor is named Splinter, while Murdock's is named Stick. Many of Daredevil's plotlines center around a ninja clan called The Hand fighting for control of the New York underground; TMNT has its own ninja clan called The Foot.
