The Haradrim seen in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Return of the King created a foreboding presence as one of Sauron's human allies during The War of the Ring. Blasting horns and adorned in bone and hide armor, masked in red and black cloth and colored in war paint as they ride their fearsome Mûmakil, these men of the Southern region of Harad are inspired by a blend of Earth's civilizations that lived in North Africa and the Middle East in the Medieval Era. Although the Haradrim are largely known as enemies allied against the fellowship of the ring, their history before this time is explored in extended Middle-Earth literature, making the promise of a more complex story for the Haradrim in Season 2 of The Rings of Power as the Men of Numenor begin landing and building along Middle-Earth's Western Coastline.
