The horror genre has grown and evolved from its humble roots with movies like Nosferatu and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Today, for each haunted house story like The Conjuring, there's an equally scary cerebral thriller about realistic themes, such as Jacob's Ladder. But one horror subgenre that can capture all of these ideas with the right movie has continued to endure with varying levels of quality: slashers. While many would consider movies like Psycho, Black Christmas or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as the original slashers, there's no denying that John Carpenter's Halloween was the most important.
