The planned Twilight TV adaptation is moving forward as an animated series to be shopped around by Lionsgate Television.

Lionsgate's vice chairman, Michael Burns, shared an update on the Twilight TV adaptation during a recent Morgan Stanley media conference, revealing, per Variety, that it will not be a live-action project. "We're going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series," he said. "I think there'll be a lot of interest in that."

News of a Twilight series first came to light in April 2023, with reports signalling the show was in early development at Lionsgate Television. Many people may have assumed that the project would be a live-action show, but the series will instead put an animated spin on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight book saga.

The core Twilight series spanned four novels published between 2005 and 2008 before being adapted into a film franchise starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Five Twilight movies were released from 2008 to 2021, with the big screen adaptation of the final book, Breaking Dawn, split into two parts.

The story of Bella Swan and her bloodsucking boyfriend proved popular with audiences since the films collectively grossed over $3 billion at the global box office. The saga has experienced a resurgence in the past few years (dubbed by some as the Twilight Renaissance) as people have found the vampire romance again.

The renewed interest in Twilight led to LEGO announcing a brick-built replica of the Cullen House, giving fans something to sink their teeth into in the future.
