In anime, the romance genre tends to be boxed into typical scenarios and tropes like high school drama, love triangles and jealous partners. While there are plenty of viewers who love watching the romance and the drama unfold, the limited variety in plot and originality in these series alienates the rest of the anime community, most of whom are fans of the action genre.
