The Office follow-up series that's currently in development is pressing forward with two new stars now attached to help bring it to life.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Ex Machina star Domhnall Gleeson and The White Lotus’ Sabrina Impacciatore are both on board to help give comedy audiences a fresh take on NBC’s classic mockumentary series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The rest of the ensemble is still coming together, and it’s currently unclear how the two actors will fit into the new formula.
Creators Greg Daniels and Michael Korman haven’t revealed many details about the project, which is being produced by Universal Television. It’s also not clear where the show would be available to watch, as the team reportedly wants more pieces in place before locking down a platform. However, Peacock currently has the exclusive streaming rights for the Steve Carrell show.
Daniels and Korman are said to have been “casting a wide net” to find talent to join their new Office. The series is said to tell a new story that takes place within the same universe as the cubicle comedy fans are familiar with. The team does not consider the new show to be a reboot.
Fans have begged for more of The Office since the show wrapped up in 2013. There have been more than a few attempts to bring the show back over the years, with some reports stating that NBC was interested in a revival back in 2017. The network reignited interest in 2018, but it took a while before such a project began active development.
NBC eventually clarified that the comedy couldn’t come back unless Daniels was attached, so fans immediately took notice when the showrunner teased an idea for “an extension of the universe” in 2022. Now that Daniels and Korman are on the move, some of the original cast has shared that they’d would love to reprise their roles. Earlier this year, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston said that he’d like to see an Office movie, an idea that Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, two Office regulars, said they were interested in. Craig Robinson, who played Darryl Philbin, has also mentioned that he’d love to appear in a reboot.
