Wolverine rose from relative obscurity to become insanely popular. Throughout the '80s and '90s, Wolverine was everywhere. He was always the breakout star and took center stage in every X-Men adaptation. He became an icon. In 2014, Marvel decided that it was time for a Wolverine break and killed the character off, a state of affairs that stayed in place until 2019.
